Job Description
What We Need YOU To Do:
The Ohio Environmental Protection Agency wants you to be our newest environmental specialist with the Division of Surface Water (DSW) at our Central Office in Columbus, Ohio.
You’ll be like a (storm) Water Warrior.
As environmental specialist, you’ll work on various aspects of DSW’s Stormwater Program for central Ohio with a particular focus on stormwater management within the Big Darby Creek and Olentangy River watersheds.
You’ll conduct inspections of regulated stormwater dischargers such an industrial and construction sites and review Municipal Separate Stormwater System (MS4) programs and Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans (SWP3) for compliance with National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permits.
You’ll prepare reports, letters, notice of violations (NOVs), and enforcement actions (including remedial plans and programs) to require compliance with permits or regulations. You’ll respond to complaints from the public about violations of NPDES permits and investigate and conduct site visits as appropriate.
You’ll develop and maintain expertise in green infrastructure practices and serve as a resource on this and other stormwater management topics for the regulated community and the public. As subject expert, you’ll provide technical assistance to other agencies, industries and local governments, and advise engineers, architects, communities, and businesses on interpretation of federal and state regulations and requirements for stormwater and related issues.

- Review stormwater pollution prevention plans (SWP3s) for the Big Darby Creek and Olentangy River watersheds.
- Prepare notices of violations and enforcement referrals for non-compliance issues and assist with resolutions.
- Respond to complaints from the public regarding stormwater issues.
- Provide technical assistance to the regulated community, other agencies, and coworkers on stormwater and related issues.

Qualifications
- ENGINEERING PREFERRED
- 12 mos. exp. as Environmental Specialist 1, 85861.
- OR 4 yrs. trg. or 4 yrs. exp. in a position involving engineering (Sanitary, Geotechnical, Civil, Environmental, Agricultural or Chemical). Training & experience must be commensurate with duties to be assigned.
- OR baccalaureate degree in engineering (Sanitary, Geotechnical, Civil, Environmental, Agricultural or Chemical).
