The Learning Team

As of January 1st, 2024, IHE Delft has established a new support unit called “The Learning Team” with the primary objective of maintaining and enhancing the quality of all education and training offerings delivered by IHE Delft. These include an MSc degree in Water and Sustainable Development, a range of Professional Training products and customized (tailor made) trainings. The Learning Team’s key responsibilities include:

  • Initiating institution-wide discussions on how current and future challenges and opportunities in education and training can inspire innovative teaching concepts and approaches at IHE Delft;
  • Creating a conducive learning environment that supports innovation and excellence in education and training and associated pedagogical approaches for both staff and students;
  • Ensuring continuous innovation and updates of education and training materials, methods, and tools based on the latest insights and trends;
  • Overseeing the implementation of monitoring and quality assurance measures to ensure excellence in education and training aligned with our curriculum and target audience;
  • Institutionalizing continuous training in teaching skills (UTQ+) and facilitating the exchange of experiences among teaching staff and guest lecturers, including the enhancement of existing programmes and the development of new ones;
  • Coordinating the development and implementation, and assisting staff to make best use of the IHE Delft Learning Management System;
  • Providing practical support in instructional design and the implementation of online course materials;
  • Monitoring the impact and effectiveness of education and training offered by IHE Delft.

Responsibilities

The manager of The Learning Team plays a crucial role in ensuring the implementation and quality of The Learning Team’s activities. Reporting directly to the vice-rector, specific tasks include:

Strategic Leadership

  • Supporting the Rectorate in developing and implementing strategies for education and professional training programmes at IHE Delft;
  • Providing leadership for the pedagogic development and quality assurance support provided by The Learning Team;
  • Initiating institution-wide discussions on how current and future challenges and opportunities in education at IHE Delft inspire innovative teaching concepts and approaches.

Financial and Resource Management Skills

  • Day-to-day financial and human resources management of The Learning Team as part of the annual planning & control cycle;
  • Overseeing the implementation of monitoring and quality assurance measures to ensure excellence in teaching methods aligned with our programmes and target audience for both face-to-face and online courses.

Collaborative Skills

  • Collaborating closely with the Education Bureau in the development of policies and procedures to enhance and monitor quality standards for all education and training at IHE Delft;
  • Collaborating closely with the IT unit on the management, innovation, and performance of learning platforms, classroom technologies, and educational software;
  • Collaborating closely with the Communication unit on marketing and external communication to prospective students, professional training participants and donors;
  • Maintaining regular contact with partner institutions in the Netherlands and abroad to exchange experiences, trends, and responses to changing education and training environments.

Research and Evaluation Skills

  • Contributing to research on the impact of IHE Delft’s education and training and proposing measures to enhance education’s efficacy in alignment with IHE’s mission;
  • Leading publications of evidence-based practices of water education in multiple learning modalities in higher education.

Innovation and Quality Assurance Skills

  • Supporting a conducive learning environment that ensures innovation and excellence in education and training approaches for both staff and students;
  • Ensuring continuous innovation and updates to teaching materials, methods, and tools based on the latest insights and trends.

Requirements

  • Master or equivalent degree in Education Science;
  • At least ten years of professional experience at a higher education or training institute;
  • Proven leadership, organisation and collaboration skills as a team-player in a multi-cultural setting;
  • Affinity with the mission of the Institute and experience in working with countries in transition and with adult learners;
  • Inspiring instructional designer;
  • Strategic thinker with demonstrable experience in developing and implementing a vision and strategy for academic and professional training programmes;
  • Life-long learner with familiarity of innovative trends in education, including online and blended formats.

Terms of employment

The employment contract is for 38 hours per week.

The position is in accordance with scale 12/13 of the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities. This role requires the candidate to be based in the Netherlands or willing to relocate to the country. The position is in Delft, the Netherlands

IHE Delft offers an attractive, multiple-choice employee benefits scheme, year-end bonus and generous pension scheme. Candidates must be prepared to carry out short-term missions abroad.

The appointment implies entry into the Netherlands’ Civil Service Pension Fund (ABP). We also offer 31 days’ leave based on 38 hours working week.
