The South Carolina Office of Resilience, through The Disaster Relief and Resilience Act, is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining the Strategic Statewide Resilience and Risk Reduction Plan. This position will support in the implementation of SCOR’s watershed-based resilience planning program in assigned watersheds across the state. This planning program focuses on the development, implementation and coordination of resilience projects, programs, and policies at the local level. Through this program, SCOR will coordinate with communities at the watershed level to identify risk and vulnerability, develop actionable flood mitigation and resilience solutions, and build community capacity by leveraging local, regional, and state partnerships. By considering the principles and data in the Statewide Resilience Plan, and pairing them with local needs assessments, this process will allow for the implementation of projects that meet local needs and consider the impact of potential projects on the larger watershed. The coordinator will support local governments, coordinate cross jurisdictional planning and projects, and serve as the liaison between local communities, SCOR, and other statewide planning efforts.

Responsibilities of the Watershed Coordinator: 

  • Coordinate with communities at the watershed level to identify risk and vulnerability, develop actionable flood mitigation and resilience solutions, and build community capacity by leveraging local, regional, and state partnerships. 
  • Inventory and compile relevant plans, studies, and data to be used in the planning process at the federal, state, and local level to inform a watershed-based resilience planning effect. 
  • Assists the program manager in the update and implementation of the Strategic Statewide Resilience and Risk Reduction Plan.
  • Other duties as assigned. 

Minimum and Additional Requirements

Minimum Requirements:

  • A bachelor’s degree and relevant program experience.

Additional Requirements: 

  • Position may require overnight travel.
  • Position may require employee to work evenings and weekends.
  • Position requires frequent lifting 20 lbs.
  • Position may be required to report to work during emergency situations. 
  • Work is primarily performed in an office environment, but travel and field work will be required in areas where there are some risks and hazards that are known, predictable, and controllable.
