Job Description:
The Department of Construction Engineering in the School of Sciences and Engineering at the American University in Cairo seeks a highly qualified faculty member for a fixed-term appointment, beginning Fall 2025 (as of July 1st, 2025). Applicants with a research focus in one or more of environmental engineering, hydraulics, and water resources are encouraged to apply.
The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in environmental engineering, hydraulics, and water resources engineering. The successful candidate is also expected to conduct innovative research, secure research grants, and supervise graduate students in fields such as water quality, hazardous site remediation, solid waste management, and climate change. Additionally, the candidate will contribute to the department, school, and university through service on various committees.
Requirements:
Candidates must hold a doctoral degree in Environmental Engineering, Water Resources Engineering, or a closely related field. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to teach courses such as Environmental Engineering, Hydraulics, Water Resources Engineering, and Sustainable Waste Management. The successful candidate is expected to contribute to advancing the fields of environmental engineering, water resources, and hydraulics through innovative research and to support the department’s mission of promoting sustainability and excellence in construction engineering.
The ideal candidate will have:
– A proven track record of teaching and research in environmental engineering, hydraulics, and water resources with North American teaching experience.
– Experience managing and conducting funded research projects, with a demonstrated ability to secure significant research grants.
– A strong publication record, including peer-reviewed journal articles and conference proceedings.
– Practical professional experience in industry or consulting.
– A history of mentoring and graduating PhD and MSc students.
– Professional Engineer (PE) status in North America or an equivalent international accreditation is preferred.
– Expertise in supervising research in areas such as water quality studies, hazardous site remediation, solid waste engineering, and climate change.
– Demonstrated enthusiasm for undergraduate and graduate education and the ability to inspire students with passion and innovative approaches.
