Position HighlightsThis position is responsible for the management of the Arizona Project WET (Water Education Today) Program within University of Arizona Cooperative Extension. Arizona Project WET is an educational outreach and community / K-12 teacher training program. This position will supervise UA staff located across the state of Arizona and students, volunteers and others as required (AmeriCorps, etc.). This position will also liaise with senior level city and state leaders in water policy to secure additional funding through sources such as inter-governmental agreements (IGA) and other grant opportunities for Arizona Project WET.

Duties & Responsibilities

Program Supervision: 

  • Provide leadership and direction for Arizona Project WET including supervision of staff and managing financial accounts  Duties to include but not limited to:
  • Develop and deliver STEM integration programs that develop skills in critical thinking, creative problem solving, cooperation with a team, and communication.
  • Direct, supervise and sustain the staff necessary to run the program. 
  • Integrate water education in to core curricula to help meet state science standards through teacher professional development and direct student outreach.
  • Direct and coordinate Arizona Project WET professional development workshops and academies for teachers statewide.
  • Evaluate and document results and impacts of the water education program on both adult and student audiences.

Community Outreach and Fundraising: 

  • Develop and cultivate key partnerships with stakeholders in industry, municipal and state government and education. 
  • Preserve existing funding and expanded external funding by creating Inter-governmental agreements (IGA’s) and grant opportunities in all regions of Arizona in coordination with Arizona Cooperative Extension planning needs.
  • Assist in the recruitment and training of volunteers including facilitating the UA Designated Campus Colleagues (DCCs) process. Coordinate volunteer recognition and local media coverage of events.

Information product development: 

  • Create outreach materials, educational curriculum and teacher training manuals for Arizona Project WET.  Duties to include but not limited to:
  • Evaluate and document results and impacts of the water education program on both adult and student audiences. 
  • Communicate program results to peers and clientele through all mediums.
  • Coordinate and lead the creation of educational materials, including workshops, curricula, and academies. Work with school districts, teachers, and policy makers to understand the trends and requirements for in school curricula.
  • Conduct and present evaluation of training impacts and efficacy of curriculum

Develop Strategic Partnerships: 

  • Work with the Arizona Extension Associate Director, Programs of Agriculture and Natural Resources to identify and cultivate key policy makers and committees regarding water conservation and education and find ways to expand the UA presence within state and regional, and K-12 water conservation education.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Minimum of 5 years of related work experience, including 2 years of managerial experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • Requires a Bachelor’s degree.
