The Mediterranean Institute of Oceanography (M.I.O.), marine component of Aix-Marseille University (AMU) is partner in SHAREMED, a strategic project funded by the Interreg MED Programme under the framework of PANORAMED. The ultimate aim of this project is to increase the capability of Mediterranean regional, subregional and local authorities and of research community to jointly assess and address hazards related to pollution and environmental threats in Mediterranean transnational waters.

The project focuses on 3 large areas of interest including the North West Mediterranean Sea (NWMed) including Portugal, Spain, France and Italy. The successful candidate will contribute at this pilot site by the development of a shared portals of observation capabilities from existing infrastructures, and to the dissemination of integrated results through a common web-portal. The portals will serve single access points to collect and depict observations collected by different partners, will show results of short-term forecast systems developed in parallel and the outcome of an atlas of major threats. These products might be useful for organizations involved in the governance of environmental risks and for a variety of stakeholders but, can also contribute to the definition of common plans to develop transnational observing system and set up a system of observing system to address environmental threats.

The appointee is expected to have excellent skills in the use of (i) web development software and experience in IT applications, (ii) specialized software such as for the high-level analysis of oceanographic data (e.g. from numerical models), and data processing tools like MATLAB and PYTHON, and (iii) office software at a professional level.

Implementation of the portal will be conducted in close collaboration with the SHAREMED portal group headed by OGS. The expert will be working at M.I.O. in Marseille under the supervision of Dr. Vincent Faure scientific responsible of the modelling task and Dr. Christian Grenz French SHAREMED PI.

The candidate is expected to work and follow the implementation of the activity in all its phases, namely:

Phase 1: develop the specific NWMed web page and data portal and the procedure for data transfer ;

Phase 2: contribute to the production of atlas of threats in collaboration with the project’s partners ;

Phase 3: propose new products or indices based on existing data or modelling results.

Progress reports are expected along the work and at the end of the work a detailed report is expected which describes the system in details.

Start date beginning:

July 2021, duration 12 months, salary depending on experience acquired.
