Offer Description
Currently, around 70 percent of global freshwater resources are used for agriculture. This sector is significantly impacted by water scarcity that compromise socio-economic sustainability of farming and food security. Water scarcity is an even pressing issue in the Mediterranean countries where farmers face reduced yields and high water management costs. Current trends project a decrease of precipitation in the next years combined with an increase in water demand due to both agricultural intensification and world population growth. Agroecology is widely considered as an innovative approach to agriculture and sustainable agricultural water management is one of the principles on which agroecology bases its foundations.
