The Department of Transportation and Infrastructure is seeking qualified candidates for the role of Senior Hydrologic Operations Engineer with the Hydrologic Forecasting and Water Management Branch.
Conditions of Employment:
- Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Water Resources Engineering
- Must be registered or be eligible for registration as a Professional Engineer with Engineers Geoscientists Manitoba (EGM)
- Must be willing and able to travel within Manitoba by air and ground as required
- Must be able to occasionally work in an outdoor rough terrain environment in both winter and summer in extreme weather conditions
- Must be able to work extended hours as required
Qualifications:
Essential:
- Extensive experience in operating large scale water control structures
- Experience in working with hydraulic theory including flood routing, open channel hydraulics, prairie hydrology, and hydrometric data collection
- Extensive experience in solving complex water resource related problems
- Experience with logic-based coding and application development
- Leadership and supervisory experience with ability to coach and mentor staff
- Effective interpersonal skills with experience in fostering collaborative working relationship with various internal and external stakeholders
- Excellent verbal communication skills with experience communicating effectively with a variety of internal and external stakeholders
- Excellent written communication skills including experience preparing technical and non-technical correspondence and reports
- Strong analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills
Desired:
- Knowledge of Occupational, Safety, Health, and Risk Management policies and procedures
Duties:
The Senior Hydrologic Operations Engineer is responsible for operation of three of the components of Manitoba’s major flood control infrastructure: the Fairford River Water Control Structure, the Portage Diversion, and the Red River Floodway. The Senior Hydrologic Operations Engineer is responsible for managing the Province of Manitoba’s hydrometric network, coordinating Manitoba Transportation and Infrastructure’s contributions to hydro-meteorological network partnerships, and managing the development, maintenance and utilization of various databases, software platforms, and web-tools and tools used to analyze, manage, and present hydrometric and meteorologic data.
