The Department of Law is one of the largest departments at Stockholm University with about 190 employees and 6,500 students. More than 100 teachers are engaged full time to teach and to carry out the research on which the teaching is founded. The Faculty employs around 30 professors and other researchers. Project description
The project will be carried out in collaboration with marine scientists with special competences in coastal and fisheries management at the Baltic Sea Centre. The call is part of Stockholm University strategic inter-disciplinary initiative in marine research. The call aims at contributing to enhanced cross-disciplinary exchange of knowledge between researchers in environmental law and marine science. The research issues in this call are not only related to local and national environmental issues but also international and global challenges. Main responsibilities
The main responsibilities for the postdoctoral fellow is to conduct environmental law research within the project Law and governance of seascape connectivity in the Baltic Sea. The overall aim of the project is to contribute to new knowledge on the role of law in governing seascape connectivity in a transdisciplinary context, in order to achieve environmental objectives. The research is expected to address questions related to fisheries management, protection of biodiversity, marine planning or any other issues related to law and governance of seascape connectivity in the Baltic Sea. The postdoctoral fellow should collaborate with researchers across faculties, in particular with researcher at the Baltic Sea Center and researcher within the marine network at Stockholm University.
The position includes teaching and administration corresponding to a maximum of 20 % of a full-time position.
Qualification requirements
A postdoctoral fellow refers to an employee who is employed mainly for research and who has completed a doctoral degree or has a foreign degree that is equivalent a doctoral degree.
Assessment criteria
Applicants are expected to hold a Swedish doctoral degree in Law with a specialization in environmental law or an equivalent degree from another country in a field of study in Law with a specialization in environmental law, aquired no more than three years before the deadline for the application. An older degree may be acceptable under special circumstances, such as sick leave, parental leave, clinical attachment, elected positions in trade unions, or similar.
Specific emphasis will be given to research merits. The assessment is based on the applicants’ research merits as well as a research plan of maximum 10.000 characters (including spaces). The research plan should demonstrate ability for scientific excellence and address overarching theoretical questions, methodological approaches and possible empirical focus for environmental law research within the project Law and governance of seascape connectivity in the Baltic Sea.
Emphasis will also be given to research proficiency demonstrated through the applicant’s own original research and scientific publications as well as other research experiences, such as successful applications of external research funding, expert assignments, participation in international research projects, peer-review commissions, awards, research management and administration and other research related activities.
The applicant must have proven ability to cooperate with colleagues and to otherwise be suitable to fulfil the position. Additional merits include capacity to work in a cross-disciplinary team of researchers, knowledge in marine science, a large international research network, research visits abroad and ability to communicate research findings to wider audiences beyond academia.
Knowledge of either Swedish or English at a very high level is a requirement for employment. Applicants who master Swedish at a very high level should also master English well.
Completed training in teaching and learning in higher education worth at least 15 credits, or equivalent knowledge, is a merit.
In the overall assessment, social skills and development capacity, will moreover be considered.
Terms of employment
The positions involve full-time employment for a period of maximum 24 months, with the possiblity to prolong the position under special circumstances, such as sick leave, parental leave, clinical attachment, elected positions in trade unions, or similar. Starting date is 1st of September 2021.
