As part of the Operations Catchment Services (OCS) Water Resources & Strategic Planning Team, you will be at the heart of ensuring that OCS & Water companies have robust & resilient strategic plans to ensure resilient water supplies for the future, whilst protecting and enhancing the environment.

An exciting opportunity has arisen to work as a Water Resources Planner within the South East.

The role is primarily focused on Affinity Water, and SES, but this may change going forward depending on geography/team priorities. As a water company lead, you will provide technical & operational leadership on the strategic water resources planning issues, influencing, and providing advice and expertise into the development of water company statutory plans and regional plans.

In addition you will:

  • Work across the wider team on ensure national consistency to water resources planning, working alongside all our water company leads.
  • Influence and provide technical advice to the water company.
  • Work with our Environment Agency Area Teams & our Environment & Business colleagues on water resource planning both locally and nationally.
  • Provide active planning, management and decision making, ensuring effective preparation & delivery of the statutory Water Resources Management Plans, Water Company Drought Plans and Water Resource planning activity.
    .participate/lead on cross cutting water resources portfolios

Responding to incidents is a central part of what we do. You will be required to have an incident role and make yourself available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support during an incident. This may attract an additional payment and full training and workplace adjustments will be available to support you with your incident role.

The team

The role will sit within the National OCS Water Resources Team, providing support & guidance on our statutory Water Resource & Drought planning activity, expertise at water company and Area scale to maintain environmental performance within OCS and to the wider business. You will work closely with the WR planning teams, Area & E&B teams to maximise our OCS Water Resources planning and response to Drought events. We are a dispersed team.

Experience/skills required

Excellent interpersonal & technical skills will compliment your ability to achieve results, solve problems, and communicate technical issues in a clear and concise manner to a range of audiences.

Through your experience to date you will ideally be able to demonstrate the following:

  • Good interpersonal skills, communication & presentation skills.
  • Self-Motivated and able to work on own initiative or as part of dispersed team
  • Ability to influence and persuade key stakeholders such as water companies
  • Knowledge of statutory Water Resource planning
  • Ability to work across OCS, E&B and Area teams for a joined up and nationally consistent approach
  • Good judgement, problem solving and decision-making skills.
  • Good planning & organisational skills, with the ability to handle multiple priorities and deliver to tight timescales.
  • CIWEM chartership or working towards chartership would be advantageous.

Note the role will require some travel and occasional overnight stays.

You’ll have an EA Office base location, as a national role the working location is flexible / hybrid.
