Role Summary

The WASH Project manager is responsible for the implementation, management, supervision and support of the assigned infrastructure and/or WASH project(s) that are being implemented in the Ituri Province. The WASH activities go alongside emergency health focused projects that target displaced, war affected and vulnerable populations in NE Congo.

Project Overview

The WASH projects will be implemented in Ituri Province alongside emergency health focused projects that target displaced, war-affected and vulnerable populations in NE Congo.

Workplace & Conditions

The post will be based in Bunia with regular travel to the field location and to villages in project areas. Occasional insecurity may cause periods of restricted movement. Bunia is a moderately sized town and there are other NGOs and UN agencies present which contribute to social life. There is a mobile network and internet most of the time.

Responsibilities:

• Be responsible for the implementation, management, supervision and support of the assigned infrastructure and/or WASH project(s) in line with the activity plan and time frame of the relevant project proposal(s).

• Manage and oversee the assigned team including recruitment, day-to-day management, development and training, appraisals.

• Monitor budgets and spending, prepare cash need forecast, ensuring that required paperwork is completed accurately and in a timely manner.

• Manage the correct and timely procurement (within budgetary constraints) of all necessary Infrastructure and WASH supplies and equipment for the assigned activities, ensuring minimum stocks are maintained and items are stored and distributed correctly.

• Promote and use the Medair e-library and other operating procedures, ensuring that all standardised formats are used, and guidelines are followed. Ensure that  up to date documents are used across the project(s).

Qualifications, Experience & Technical Competencies:

• University degree in Water / Environmental Engineering, Management, Civil Engineering or Hydrology

• Good English (spoken and written), Good French (spoken and written)  

• At least 2 years of post-qualification experience in a water and sanitation

• Management experience in a WASH context  

• Experience working in a WASH programme in a developing country, preferably in a humanitarian context

• Good communicator, able to pass on information efficiently

• Creative, open-minded, flexible, self-learner, with good understanding of cross-cultural issues
