About this role
We are looking to recruit a Research Assistant in Water Quality Sensing on a part time basis to help deliver an award funded by the WATER4ALL Partnership co funded by Horizon Europe and the EPSRC (UKRI). The research assistant will assist with the development of Digital Tools For Sustainable Water Resources Management: Integrating Impact Of Climate Change, Land Use, And Optimised Solutions (TWIN-Waters). The successful candidate will work as part of a project team, in partnership with public and private stakeholders in the UK, Sweden and Poland to implement, demonstrate and evaluate a fluorescence-based water quality monitoring sensor technology for the detection and monitoring of microbial activity in demonstrator freshwater catchments.- This part-time role will consist of 30 days per year.
About you
You will work as part of an interdisciplinary team (including microbiologists, engineers, environmental scientists, and data scientists) implementing fluorescence-based sensing technology for water quality monitoring in water catchments. You will have access to a range of laboratory facilities, including microbiological) that support the development of cutting-edge new technology.
You will work closely with collaborators from Lund University, Chelsea Technologies, and Wroclaw University of Environmental and Life Sciences and conduct extensive field-testing of the technology at existing water catchments. You will be expected to disseminate the technology and results by preparing reports and by presenting at relevant meetings.
You should have a degree in Environmental Science and a practical background water quality sensing and monitoring. Good laboratory and field skills and experience of water quality sampling, analysis and testing and the ability to critically assess data and results are essential. Some experience of aquatic ecology is desirable.
You should be able to work and communicate efficiently with other researchers, including supervisors, students, technicians, and postdoctoral researchers who may have very different backgrounds to your own.
You will have a good track record in conducting independent and original research and publishing in research journals.

This is a part-time fixed term role (5 hours per week, 30 days per year) untill the 31 March 2027.
