Job description

Are you interested in an environmental career? We are looking to appoint a paid Graduate Intern on a fixed term 12 month contract. As a team member in the Catchment Planning and Programmes team you will be office based, working directly with the river basin planning programme delivery manager to ensure the successful implementation of the river basin management plan consultations. This is an essential part of the review and update of the river basin management plans that will be published in 2022.
This role is extremely varied and draws upon a diverse range of transferable skills. This internship could be a great first step for someone with a passion for the environment to expand their personal development. The successful candidate will also have the opportunity to apply for internal jobs with the Environment Agency.
Environment Agency internship applications can be made by students graduating this year or those who have graduated in the last two years, with at least a degree or foundation degree. The successful candidate must have a passion for the environment and is likely to have an ‘environmental’ based degree such as geography or environmental studies.

The team

You will be part of the national Catchment Planning and Programmes team in Operations Catchment Services. This is part of national operations, but our aspiration is to work with Area teams as 'one operation' across the business.
Our team vision is to help deliver cleaner air and water in our cities and rural landscapes, protect threatened species and provide richer wildlife habitats.
We promote an inclusive culture and welcome all applicants.

Experience/skills required

This role is extremely varied and draws upon a diverse range of transferable skills. We are looking for someone:
• Has a passion for the environment
• Who is enthusiastic and willing to learn
• Who is flexible to the approach to work but driven and self-motivated
• Can organise and plan their own work on a daily basis
• Can use standard IT packages efficiently to deliver work, but be able to learn specialised systems as required
Excellent communication skills are a must as you’ll be working with a diverse range of people.
The key things we’re looking for are transferable skills and capabilities, so do not be put off applying if you do not have the exact skills.
