to establish an SDGnexus Network Research Group on (1) “Water” or (2) “Land Use

The positions are part of the externally funded project “SDGnexus Network” at the Center for International Development and Environmental Research (ZEU) and are limited until 31.12.2029. The salary is in accordance with the collective labour agreement of the State of Hessen (E 13 TV-H). The positions will be filled subject to successful third-party funding.

About the SDGnexus Network

The SDGnexus Network, consisting of partners from Colombia, Ecuador, Germany, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan, provides a common research framework related to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations and aims to analyze synergies and trade-offs among individual SDGs (SDG-Nexus-analysis).

Following a successful first phase from 2020-2024, the SDGnexus Network will intensify its activities in a second phase 2025-2029. Your research concentrates on examining the relationships between individual SDGs, with a particular emphasis on land use and water. For this purpose, SDGnexus Network Research Groups are established at all partners, which thematically cooperate closely. A particular focus lays on promoting and connecting the next generation of scientists in the project regions. Further information about the network can be found at www.sdgnexus.net

Your tasks

  • As a postdoctoral researcher, you will be responsible for setting up and directing an SDGnexus Network Research Group with two doctoral candidates
  • Your scientific work is related to on one or more regions of the SDGnexus network partners
  • You will support the young scientists in your team in their scientific development
  • You will actively participate in the development of research concepts and relevant third-party funding applications
  • You will actively collaborate with the foreign partners of the SDGnexus Network on research questions
  • You will coordinate the progress of your work with the Project Management Office

Your qualifications and competences

  • You hold an excellent Ph.D. in a topic related to the SDGs
  • You possess good knowledge of the SDGs and of the methods for quantifying synergies and tradeoffs between them
  • You communicate fluently in spoken and written English
  • Good knowledge of the German, Spanish, or Russian language is a clear advantage
  • You are a highly motivated person that brings curiosity in research and is committed to pursue scientific excellence in a multi-disciplinary, collaborative, and international environment
  • You are a team player and have excellent communication and leadership skills
