WHAT IS THE OPPORTUNITY? 

 The Senior Director of Regional Programs and Technical Services is a full-time, senior staff position reporting to the Chief Strategy Officer (CSO) of GWC. They will join GWC’s senior leadership team, which is responsible for organizational leadership and strategic direction, during an important season of growth. This person is responsible for leading and managing GWC’s division responsible for regional programs and technical services.  

GWC’s regional programs are currently located in India and Ghana and are preparing to launch within East Africa as well as Honduras. All programs are focused on capacity development and vocational training for the rural water sector. GWC technical services support both the regional programs, as well as consulting services including technical evaluations and technical assistance projects.  

 The Senior Director will also lead the continued development and scaling of GWC’s digital platform, Sureflow Analytics. Sureflow Analytics integrates and automates data processing, reducing data management and reporting time, while providing water operators critical data to keep water flowing.  

 The ideal candidate will be an engineer with extensive experience working in the rural water sector designing and implementing water systems as well as capacity development programs. They will understand recent and upcoming trends in the rural water sector. They will be experienced working in cross-cultural contexts and leading remote teams.  

 International travel is a key part of this job and is anticipated to be 4+ international trips annually of 1-2 weeks per trip and 2-3 domestic trips of 3 – 5 days duration.  

 This position is remote. 

 KEY RESPONSIBILITIES  

  • Launch and manage regional and national capacity development programs, including hiring and managing in-country staff and consultants necessary for multi-year programs. 
  • Collaborate closely with the Collective Action division in the building, maintaining, and expanding of relationships with governments and implementing organizations needed to both implement regional and national capacity development programs, and to exponentially grow their impact. 
  • Lead GWC’s technical consulting services with non-profits focused on the rural water sector. This includes relationship management and supporting GWC staff in project design, management, and execution. 
  • Lead, and grow, a team of in-house subject matter experts that provide in-person training delivery, facilitate online trainings, provide consulting support, and support resource development.  
  • Actively work to expand GWC’s technical consulting team with consultants who exhibit GWC’s values and work to international standards of design and implementation  
  • Lead the development and scaling of GWC’s Sureflow Analytics, our digital monitoring and management platform, to meet the rural water sector’s needs for automated data process and reporting. This includes asset management and reporting needs associated with performance-based funding. Manage testing of remote monitoring conducted with implementing partners. 
  • Serve as an in-house subject matter expert and establish quality control mechanisms for the division. 
  • Work simultaneously on multiple projects and ensure work is done with excellence within an agreed upon scope, schedule, and budget. 
  • Maintain good communication with partner organizations and team members across multiple countries and time zones.

  • Represent the Global Water Center’s brand to external audiences including potential funders, partners, subject matter experts, training partners, and training customers.  

 QUALIFICATIONS  

  • Master’s degree (or higher) in Engineering or related technical WASH program area 
  • 10 + years of overseeing and implementing multi-national program teams focused on WASH related to engineering, technical services, and standards-based initiatives in support of capacity development 
  • Experience working in low and middle-income countries  
  • Cross-cultural communication skills

  • Fluent written and spoken French or Spanish is an asset

 PHYSICAL DEMANDS 

  • Ability to safely lift a minimum of 35 lbs.   
  • Ability to sit for extended periods, stand, walk, type, carry, kneel, ascend, and descend stairs, and bend.    
  • Ability to work primarily indoors with frequent work outdoors in multiple types of weather / environmental conditions.   
  • Ability to work outside the normal Monday to Friday, 8am to 5pm workweek if needed.   
  • Ability to travel as needed.
