What We’re Looking For
Project Director of Restoration We are seeking a passionate professional with the experience to lead design and construction of forest, meadow, and stream restoration projects. This position reports to and works closely with the Executive Director and will be a key member of the team implementing the direction of the Truckee River Watershed Council (TRWC). The ideal candidate has implemented several large-scale restoration projects in all phases from design through adaptive management.
Responsibilities
The Project Director of Restoration is one of four such positions at TRWC. This is a senior position and works to increase the amount of restored land in the middle Truckee River watershed. This position will manage 6-10 projects each year. The Project Director works with partners to launch restoration projects, establish formal partnership agreements, secure project funding, secure environmental compliance, and implement the projects. The projects often include multiple partners, complex land-use constraints and jurisdictions, and public outreach. The Project Director provides complete project oversight and coordination and has contractual and expense authority up to a significant limit. Additionally, the Project Director will manage our Adopt-A-Stream volunteer-based program. The Project Director will have responsibility for assisting local and regional decision-makers with policy issues and initiatives related to our mission.
Qualifications
- BA/BS degree in natural resources management, conservation, or another related field
- 10 years’ experience in land conservation, ecosystem restoration, rural land development, or a related field (including related fields in private or government sectors)
- Completion of at least three (3) large habitat restoration projects with a preference for projects in forest, meadow, or stream ecosystems
- Experience working with a wide range of professionals such as resource agency staff, regulatory agency staff, landowners, consultants, contractors, and funders
- Experience negotiating complex agreements
- Experience raising grant funds from government agencies, private foundations, businesses, and donors; secured at least $2.5M in the past 5 years. (If your experience is the private or government sector, demonstrated experience in securing equivalent funding/financing levels.)
- Experience in developing and managing multiple projects and timelines
- Strong oral, written, and public speaking skills. • Proficient with current office, technical, and presentation software applications
Pay and Benefits
Full-time position. Salary range is $87,000 – $97,000 based on experience. A full benefits package is included with insurance, retirement contribution, paid time off, and paid holidays.
