About the NSW Reconstruction Authority
The NSW Reconstruction Authority (the Authority) is a statutory corporation within the Planning & Environment cluster. The Authority will improve how NSW plans for disasters and make sure that communities across the state recover from them faster.
The Authority will complete critical planning and preparation to reduce the severity and impacts of disasters and will start recovery swiftly and coordinate reconstruction efforts when disasters occur.
About the Northern Rivers Adaptation Division
The Northern Rivers Adaptation Division (the Division) was established following the 2022 floods before becoming part of the Authority on 1 July 2023. The Division retains its Northern Rivers identity and continues to focus on rebuilding communities across the region.
Having the critical work and collective efforts under a single agency provides opportunities to learn from experience, better help communities prepare for future disasters and recover and more effectively rebuild.
About the Manager, Natural Hazard and Climate Risk
This role leads a team in providing fit-for-purpose, strategic and technical advice and analysis of natural hazard impacts and climate change risks, with a focus on the Northern Rivers region.
In this role you will:
- Work collaboratively with subject matter experts from various disciplines to deliver technical assessments and analyses to help reduce the vulnerability and exposure of assets, communities and service delivery to natural hazards.
- Lead and oversee all aspects of implementation of technical assessments and economic analyses relating to natural hazard risk and risk mitigation options.
- Lead provision of advice and insights regarding natural hazards and climate risk to Councils to build their capacity to adapt.
About the Manager, Flood Risk Mitigation
This role provides advice and technical leadership to support the Division in developing and implementing best practice infrastructure and non-infrastructure approaches to reduce, and adapt to, future flood risk in the Northern Rivers.
In this role you will:
- Lead the delivery of projects and strategies that support flood risk mitigation through sound analysis, appraisals, and business case development.
- Provide technical advice and leadership relating to flood risk management, in collaboration with relevant subject matter experts.
- Maintain a high level of technical expertise in floodplain risk management policies, approaches and technologies.

About you
The successful candidate will have:
- Tertiary qualifications or equivalent knowledge and experience in civil/environmental engineering, environmental science, geomorphology, or hydrology.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced and complex government environment.
- Strong communications skills who can interact with internal and external stakeholders and deliver technical information to a broad range of audiences.
- Carries a high level of autonomy in setting own deadlines and priorities, and those of any staff supervised.
