Compensation: $87,568 – $151,132 (Based on Experience)

Summary:

The Waste Water Engineering team is looking for a Technical Management Leader who can lead teams as assigned, perform a variety of technical and administrative engineering work, and apply insight and solutions based on the engineering field of expertise. This person will be responsible for assessing work products and providing solutions that ensure deliverable quality in support of operations and capital improvements including performance management, quality management, and continuous improvement.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Manage professional and technical engineering team members in the preparation of engineering design studies and reports; the development of contract and construction documents including design drawings, specifications, calculations, cost estimates, and the review of federal, regional, and local legislation affecting engineering work
  • Serve as a senior technical advisor providing evaluation, planning, design, and construction expertise of water, stormwater, and wastewater treatment facilities and pump stations for a wide variety of large and complex engineering projects
  • Analyze and solve complex engineering and process-related problems, which may include water treatment, design, civil, chemical (environmental), structural, electrical, and mechanical; may direct and/or participate in scientific research projects relating to the study of water treatments and their effects on the environment
  • Prepare and supervise the preparation of construction documents, including advertisement for bids, instructions to bidders, and contract bonds; review and analyze bids for conformance with specifications and approval of final awarding of bids; review technical aspects of requests for proposals and bids to ensure that the technical scope of work is accurate; and provide technical input to the resolution of claims and disputes
  • Analyze workloads and budgets needed to complete deliverables, assign work to groups of engineers and technicians to meet project demands, manage engineering team performance and mentor/coach team members in areas aligned to required engineering disciplines, and administer corrective actions under the supervising manager’s direction in support of project work
  • Collaborate in the CIP Planning process and on the development with others of future capital budgets
  • Conduct facility assessments for quality of water treatment/sewage systems pertaining to specific subject matter expertise, leading teams in innovative performance solutions
  • Provide technical input for project environmental reviews, land use, and other regulatory processes
  • Communicate both verbally and in writing with all levels of the organization and establish and maintain working relationships with operations staff impacted by the project, to ensure the project meets operational needs
  • As requested by the Life Cycle Project Manager, participate in the interdisciplinary review of project deliverables
  • At the Life Cycle Project Manager’s request, provide process design direction and support in accordance with the Program Management Plan (PMP) change process

Environmental Working Requirements:

Work is performed within an office, plant environment, remote sites, or other locations. Employees within this classification may be exposed to dust and electrical connections, and frequent work with computer equipment.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from an accredited college or university
  • Professional Engineer License in the State of Michigan
  • Minimum of seven (7) years of verifiable professional engineering (civil, chemical, sanitary, environmental, mechanical, or electrical) work experience, which includes two (2) years experience in a supervisory role
