Posting SummaryThe Water Resources Institute facilitates an innovative network of programs, researchers, partners, facilities, and services to build a nationally recognized center at the forefront of interdisciplinary water-related research, innovation, education, and community outreach.Provide analytical research support to team of researchers engaged in flood prediction and impacts assessment work. Functions include database management, code development, model performance assessments, and analytical support for a range of field and simulation modeling tasks.Job functions include:
-Develop and modify code to advance team research activities using spatial and time series data. Survey existing coding tools and appropriate datasets or model configuration files in public repositories for adoption and modification. Test model performance using empirical data and develop performance reports. Conduct literature reviews and data inspections to support project development and execution.
-Documentation of analytical methods for written (technical reports, manuscripts) and oral (users meetings, professional conferences) presentations. Contribute to annual CIROH performance reporting. Archive code and datasets and develop documentation for research partners.
-Create data dashboards or visualization tools to support data and model evaluation. Lead technical meetings with research team to advance research objectives. Identify and test new analytical approaches.
Minimum Qualifications (or equivalent combination of education and experience)Master’s degree in environmental engineering, geosciences, environmental sciences, or related field or minimum of two year’s work experience following a bachelor’s degree involving significant data management and coding. Fluency with open source coding languages (R, Python, SQL), software (QGIS, HECRAS) and code sharing environments (GitHub, FigShare).Subject area knowledge of hydrology, geomorphology and/or environmental engineering and work with hydroinformatics tools, including CUAHSI’s HydroShare environment, highly desired.
Desirable Qualifications
Anticipated Pay Range60,000 – 68,000
