The Role
You will lead the Mackay Aquatic Ecology team in the Water Planning and Science team in North Region, and provide professional leadership, management, and direction for freshwater science projects and delivery of high quality technical and scientific advice to support water planning.

Key Duties Include:
• Lead, manage and support the team of scientists based in Mackay to deliver the agreed workplan of aquatic ecosystem science to support water planning.
• Provide specialist scientific advice, science leadership, recommendations and input to policy and water planning on issues related to flow management and aquatic ecosystems.
• Prepare reports and other written and verbal advice and briefs as required.
• Assist the team in undertaking fieldwork in line with the agreed work program. Lead trip preparation for the Lake Eyre Basin Rivers Assessment (LEBRA).
• Design and deliver aquatic ecosystem monitoring programs in north Queensland relevant to outcomes of Water Plans.
• Ensure the requirements of clients and collaborators are satisfied through the efficient, effective and timely delivery of project milestones and outputs, in accordance with agreed outcomes.

About You:
• The applicant will require a Bachelor Degree in Agricultural or Environmental Science, Applied Science or Natural Resource Management. A post-graduate qualification is highly desirable.
• If your qualification is from an overseas institution, you will need to attach a certified copy of the official recognition to your application (email skillsrecognition@deta.qld.gov.au for more information about obtaining official recognition of your overseas qualification).
• Knowledge of freshwater fish ecology, turtle ecology or another freshwater ecology specialisation is highly desirable.
• Boat handling skills are highly desirable.
• Applicants must hold a current “C” class manual driver’s licence;
• Out-of-hours and weekend work may be required;
• This is both a field and office-based position; and
• This position will require remote area fieldwork and overnight travel as part of the fulfilment of the role.
