Senior Water Consultant

  •  Full-time position
  •  Location – based in Cape Town, Pretoria, Nairobi or London


  • Leading project teams working on a range of water, environmental, resource development and related projects
  • Developing and growing the Pegasys Water practice area through proactive business development and acquisition of work
  • Providing specialist input into other Pegasys projects where required
  • Undertaking, contributing to, and delivering project work
  • Mentoring and supporting junior consultants working on water projects
  • Growing into a senior manager in the firm, leading water work across the group



  • At least a Master’s degree in an appropriate field including (but not limited to) Hydrology, Water Resources Management, Environmental Studies and Earth Sciences, Economics, Development Studies, Public Management, Business Management, Engineering or any other relevant post-graduate qualification
  • At least 10 years’ experience in public water sector consulting with a keen understanding of the financial, institutional and regulatory systems that underpin water systems and water infrastructure
  • Solid work experience in strategy consulting, while exposure to any one of the following sectors will be an added advantage: national, local or provincial government, think-tanks and / or multilateral development institutions
  • A demonstrated track record in winning work with the public sector and donors/IFIs, with a strong ability to develop technical proposals and put together a compelling commercial offer
  • A keen ability and experience in project management and exposure to running complex projects with multiple stakeholders
  • Established regional networks in the water development sector particularly in SADC, East Africa, West Africa or the Middle East and exposure to dealing with donors/IFIs
  • Experience in driving and / or managing water projects in South Africa, or any other developing country
  • A good understanding of the water sector and its interface with development sectors, and the desire to grow as a sector expert with continental / global recognition


  •  Fluency in one of French, Portuguese, Swahili or other language widely spoken in Eastern and Southern African countries and the Middle East.

  • Comfortable with strategic thinking, including the ability to draw linkages between and observe implications of the evidence available, to understand what the information suggests or points to
  • Must have extremely high attention to detail
