Position Vacancy Announcement
The Florida A&M University (FAMU) School of the Environment (SOE) is accepting applications for a Geospatial/Sustainability Analyst II vacancy.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities will be to support the School of the Environment faculty and students with geospatial assessments and tools for environmental restoration, including, but not limited to: Production of hydrologic data from a variety of spatial and tabular data sources; Management and maintenance of vast spatial datasets in a distributed cloud environment; Assessing quality, compatibility, and limitations of various data used in a wide array of land management and planning efforts; Develop data dictionaries, data models, and metadata for multi-disciplinary information and geospatial applications; Creation of interactive thematic map products and presentation materials, and publications for natural resource management planning and decision making; Publish, configure, and maintain ArcGIS Server/ArcGIS Online hosted feature services for the optimization of field data capture utilizing Web maps, Collector, Survey 123, and Operational Dashboards; Provide technical expertise and make recommendations in development and application of geospatial analysis, design, database implementation, and monitoring for departmental projects; Explore the utility of cloud-based geospatial environments (e.g., Google Earth Engine, Microsoft Azure-AI for Earth program) for cost-effective remote sensing and geospatial analysis; Knowledge of natural resource and land management operations to coordinate with NFF partners on hydrologic restoration projects, including, but not limited to, federal contracting, project management, monitoring, etc.; Proficiency using Microsoft Office Professional Suite (Access, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Teams).
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in appropriate area of specialization and two years experience; or master’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization.
Recommended Competencies
Knowledge of the concepts, principles, and practices of accounting, budgeting, and cost control procedures;
Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing;
Advanced ability to gather, interpret, report, and/or edit information;
Knowledge of and ability to interpret and apply related federal, state, and local laws, ordinances, rules and regulations;
Ability to develop and implement policies, procedures, goals, and objectives;
Ability to evaluate process effectiveness and develop change or alternatives;
Knowledge of and the ability to interpret and apply related University policies, procedures, principles, and practices; and,
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
Preferred Qualifications
M.S. degree in Geography or related field;
Three (3) years of experience with ESRI ArcGIS Suite of products (including ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, Collector/Survey123);
Proven spatial data editing, maintenance, analysis, and metadata creation skills;
One (1) year experience with Microsoft Azure, including data ingress/egress/storage, managing and using virtual machines, and development of cloud-based GIS workflows;
One (1) year experience with remote environmental monitoring stations such as Internet of Things (IoT) weather and soil moisture sensors;
Professional knowledge of the theories, concepts, practices, standards, and methods of geography and related social sciences; hydrology and ecosystems in the Southern Coastal Plain; understanding of aquatic organism passage and hydrologic feature engineering design requirements;
GPS hardware and data collection skills, including developing custom data collection workflows.
Pay Plan
This is an Administrative and Professional (A&P) position.
