JOB DESCRIPTION

We are currently seeking a Junior adaptation Specialist to join our Africa Office based in Lome,Togo. This work will contribute to the Africa Office’s efforts to support developing countries in Africa and elsewhere in the climate resilient building. You will be a member of our diverse and international Implementation Strategies Team. Specifically, this work will involve helping team in the climate change in Agriculture and Land Use sector, development of adaptation options, elaboration and implementation of National adaptation plans (NAP), Nationally determined Contributions (NDCs), development of long-term low emission development strategies (LT-LEDS) – adaptation component, and supporting policies, strategies, and tools, concepts and proposals for accessing financial resources to implement climate action.

Your responsibilities
Research and Analysis

  • Conduct research on climate change and adaptation topics, including emerging technologies and policy trends
  • Collect and maintain databases, organize and interpret data related to climate change in Agriculture, Forest and Land Use sectors
  • Support development of climate project namely baseline analysis and climate rationale,adaptation options and costs

Developing climate action pathways

  • Monitor and review relevant climate and adaptation policies
  • Support team in the review, implementation and monitoring of Nationally determined contributions (NDC) for adaptation component
  • Support the team in the quantification and modeling of the GHG trends and reduction emission in the framework of NDC and L-LEDS development particularly in the Agriculture, Forest and Land Use sector 

Stakeholder and country engagement

  • Develop and maintain a network within the adaptation community, focusing on sharing best practices and knowledge exchange.
  • Support interactions with stakeholders, including government agencies, non-profit organizations, and community groups
  • Participation in remote or in-country missions, including supporting the organization of stakeholder workshops, bilateral meetings and public consultations
  • Liaising with focus countries, regional and national organizations, agencies and governments and financing entities to identify priorities and opportunities for climate action implementation.

Other and general responsibilities

  • Supporting broader activities of Climate Analytics in mitigation and adaptation implementation projects particularly in the Africa region and support similar work undertaken in the other regions.
  • Providing input for management and reporting on projects, and dissemination of results including lesson learned and best practice
YOUR PROFILE

Essential criteria

  • A master’s degree in climate change, climate science, Agriculture and Land use or a related field
  • At least 3 years’ experience in climate change adaptation, research, and policy analysis, with a focus on developing countries
  • Experience with data analysis, research, climate vulnerability assessment, climate risk analysis
  • Excellent analytical and writing skills with the ability to summarize and synthesize big volumes of information and/or data for project recommendations/actions
  • Proficiency in data analysis tools
  • Strong/advanced knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office Suite especially Word, Excel and PowerPoint, with openness towards learning new software and other working tools
  • Proactive and self-motivated with a strong work ethic
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Our working language is English.Therefore, fluency in English is required, sound proficiency in French is necessary

Desirable criteria

  • Understanding and experience in NAP, NDC and other planification documents in Agriculture sector and climate change
  • Understanding of global climate finance landscape
  • High organization skills, being detail-oriented and a motivated self-starter and a team player able to interact and cooperate with a diverse array of people, including remotely in a highly international team
  • The ability to actively seek the knowledge needed to complete assignments and share knowledge with others, communicating and presenting information in a clear and organized manner
  • Willingness to travel regionally and internationally on a needed basis
  • Understanding of IPCC
