Key roles and responsibilities:
The intern will work under the direct supervision of Climate & Environment Specialist and support to undertake the following tasks:
Results planning, monitoring & reporting
Output 1: Assist the Implementation of ongoing Climate & Environment programmes & initiatives
Activity 1.1: Support the Youth Solar (YOSO) Initiative
- Attend meetings (with the Climate & Environment Specialist) with the collaborating partners to implement the next phase of the YOSO Initiative (NPO, private sector – TBC)
- Contact local schools / Provincial and District Office of Education (PoE, DoE) officers to discuss the date, venue and details for the YOSO training on solar energy (Siem Reap, Preah Vihear, Ratanakiri)
- Assist translations for training materials for the students, engage in interpretations when communicating with school / local authorities, students and community people
- Draft report / presentation on the solar training, prepare data on the list of schools and students in each province for YOSO, take photographs of the YOSO trainings
Activity 1.2: Coordinating / assisting youth engagement in climate action
- Engage in meetings with the Youth Council for Climate Action (YCCA) members who will have local / regional / global meetings on climate action for young people, assist logistics and administrative procedures for their activities
- Provide translation / interpretations during UNICEF meetings with the Government (Ministry of Environment, etc.) or other partners to promote youth climate action
- Draft report / presentation on the youth engagement in climate action, take photographs of youth climate meetings / events
Output 2: To support UNICEF Cambodia to integrate climate and environment topics across UNICEF programmes
Activity 2.1: Coordinate the Climate & Environment Working Group for joint programmes
- Coordinate with the focal persons of each UNICEF program sections for cross-cutting climate & environment projects (i.e. Local Life Skills Education, Climate Migration etc.)
- Identify each sections’ programmes for climate & environment, provide inputs and data in the required documents
- Accompany climate & environment meetings with Government / relevant development partners, draft reports
Activity 2.2: Support the launch of the Cambodia Children’s Climate Risk Index (CCRI)
- Support the preparatory work for the launch of the Cambodia subnational Children’s Climate Risk Index (CCRI)
- Perform other tasks as assigned by the supervisor.
To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…
- Must be enrolled, within the past year, in a graduate degree program. Majors with direct relevance to the assignment are welcome, e.g., environmental science and/or environmental health, social and economic development, or related areas;
- Familiar with the core UN / national declarations and compacts, in particular the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) as well as Cambodia’s 2020 Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) and the child-focused Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) is an advantage
- Have no immediate relatives (e.g. father, mother, brother, sister) working in any UNICEF office; and have no other relatives in the line of authority that the intern will report to;
- Proficiency in English both spoken and written;
- Good communication and analytical skills;
- Well organized and structured approach with attention to details and deadlines;
- Strong commitment and passion for UNICEF’s mission.
The intern should be:
- Sensitive to child rights and child safeguarding principles; and
- Sensitive to a multi-culture environment.
Availability:
- Desired period from 3 to 6 months, Mon – Fri (full time – 5 days per week)
Conditions of the Internship:
National interns who are not in receipt of financial support from any sources will be provided by UNICEF with a USD 300 stipend per month during the internship and one-time reimbursement of other costs (insurance) up to USD 100.
UNICEF will cover the cost for field trips if such are needed during the assignment.
