  • Salary relative to experience, and ranges from $120,859 base to $133,183 top + super

The Natural Resource Access Regulator (NRAR) is seeking to appoint two Technical Specialists responsible for innovation in and improvement of NRAR’s operational technologies (OpTech), being those technologies, tools, systems and processes NRAR uses to collect evidence in the field, and to manage and process it.

The roles have been created to deliver outcomes for the NRAR Operational Technology Infrastructure Uplift project. The goal is to implement new technical capabilities and supporting best practice operating and data processing standards.

The work includes engaging internal and external stakeholders including partner agencies in Australia and overseas; needs analysis; marketplace assessments; desktop product evaluations; in-field technology trials; solutions selection and procurement; draft best-practice operating and data processing standards; deliver training to NRAR staff; and, implementation planning and execution, progress reporting and collaboration with operational managers and teams.    

NRAR’s Technical Specialists ensure that NRAR’s OpTech capabilities are effective and that they demonstrably contribute to NRAR’s regulatory capability.

They provide advice and recommendations on complex technical matters to NRAR management and may be called on from time-to-time to provide expert opinion in investigations or prosecutions.

  • Delivering new capabilities on time and budget
  • Providing plain language advice on complex technical issues to non-technical audiences
  • Ensuring OpTech demonstrably contributes to NRAR’s improved regulatory capability

About You

  • You will have strong knowledge and proven experience in technical innovation and in operation of technical tools and systems relevant/applicable to water regulation
  • Proven work history in a relevant field
  • Experience providing technical support and guidance
  • Strong stakeholder management and engagement skills.

Essential Requirements

  • Qualifications in science, engineering, hydrometrics, natural resource management, agriculture, surveying, instrumentation or other relevant discipline.
  • Current NSW Driver’s License
  • Willingness to drive to and work in remote locations in NSW including overnight stays
  • The applicant is required to work around water from time-to-time so should have the ability to swim and may be required to operate a kayak on still inland waters.
  • The successful applicant may be required to obtain on-the-job:
    • Occupational aquatic competency (swim) competency certificate (likely)
    • Kayak inland flat-water competency certificate (possible)
    • Coxswain NC3 certificate (possible)
  • Appointment is subject to the successful applicant satisfactorily passing the criminal record check.
