Researcher: Ingénieur d’étude – neige et ressources en eau dans les parcs nationaux alpins via EURAXESS

Centre d'Etudes Spatiales de la Biosphère (Cesbio)

Toulouse, France 🇫🇷

Offer Description

Cesbio (https://www.cesbio.cnrs.fr/) is a public research laboratory which aims to better understand the functioning of continental surfaces and their interactions with climate and humans. Remote sensing is heavily used by Cesbio scientists to monitor the evolution of the planet at various scales and develop models to tackle societal challenges on biodiversity, climate change, food security, water resources, etc. The laboratory also contributes to the development and promotion of Earth Observation by participating in the definition, implementation and scientific exploitation of space missions.

National parks in the Alps face the challenge of climate change which has a negative impact on alpine species and habitats and repercussions on the economy and high altitude activities. The ACLIMO project aims to support alpine territories towards a transition of human activities, particularly pastoral activities, in line with the challenge of preserving natural heritage. ACLIMO is financed by the European ALCOTRA program (Latin Alps COopération TRAnsfrontalière).

The ACLIMO project partners asked CESBIO to quantify the water resources associated with the snow cover in the eight national parks involved in France and Italy. Indeed, CESBIO develops mountain snowpack modeling tools based on cross-border data such as satellite observations.

You will be responsible for this mission at CESBIO and responsible for the following tasks:

– Simulate snow cover in these parks

– Evaluate results using in-situ and satellite data

– Synthesize information on available water resources

– Communicate results and exchange with partners

You will be accompanied by Simon Gascoin, CNRS research fellow and Laura Sourp, doctoral student at Paul Sabatier University under contract with Magellium.

Remote work possible (2 days maximum).

Salary per month between 2453.52 € and 2704.58 € + bonus 567.5 € per month
