POSITION SUMMARY

The Watershed Conservation Project Manager develops, manages and advances conservation programs, plans and methods for large-scale geographic areas.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The Watershed Conservation Project Manager provides technical leadership and support to the Dominican Republic Program of the Caribbean Division by planning, directing and implementing preserve management programs and stewardship. She/he develops and implements actions to strengthen the operation and conservation activities of Water Funds in the Dominican Republic. S/he identifies, assesses and addresses critical threats or potential risks to the replenishment project. S/he verifies on-the-ground activities executed by implementing partners to assure compliance with project goals and objectives. S/he oversees the conditions of restoration sites established in Yaque del Norte, Nizao, Haina and Ozama watersheds and makes recommendations to reorient processes and keep the project on track. This position reports to the Dominican Republic Program Manager.

Hours: This is a part-time position of 20 regular hours per week; Term: This position has an end date of December 31, 2020; an extension may be considered, but is not guaranteed.

RESPONSIBILITIES & SCOPE

  • Supervise project management and goals achievement by multi-disciplinary administrative and professional staff at partner organization.

  • Gain cooperation from outside parties to accomplish program goals.

  • Financial responsibility may include working within/managing a budget to complete projects, negotiating and contracting with vendors, assisting with budget development, and meeting fundraising targets.

  • Ensures program compliance with internal policies and external requirements.

  • Under minimal supervision, makes independent decisions based on analysis, experience and judgment.

  • May work in variable weather conditions, at remote locations, on difficult and hazardous terrain and under physically demanding circumstances.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • BA/BS, natural resources or hydrology degree and 5 years’ experience in natural resource management or more than 10 years of equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Written and verbal fluency in Spanish

  • Supervisory experience.

  • Knowledge of the working areas

  • Experience using GPS and other GIS tools

  • Experience using applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and Web Browsers.

  • Experience communicating with the public and/or media both in writing and verbally.

  • Valid driver license

PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

  • Knowledge of land management conservation practice and conservation science.

  • Qualified to work in the Dominican Republic

  • Ability to prepare complex technical reports on a regular basis and meet deadlines

  • Experience negotiating complex agreements.

  • Ability to explain conservation practices to technical and non-technical audiences

  • Knowledge of current trends and practices in conservation, land management, and natural resource preservation.

  • Completing tasks independently with respect to timeline(s).

  • Excellent communication skills via written, spoken and graphical means in English and Spanish.
