AECOM is actively seeking a creative, highly talented Sustainability consultant: (climate and community greenhouse gas specialist) for immediate employment. The selected candidate will join the Sustainable Development Group, part of AECOM’s global Planning + Economics Practice Line. The primary emphasis of the group is to promote socioeconomic and environmental sustainability in urban design, city planning, and policy projects. This is accomplished through employing rigorous strategic and economic planning techniques and developing innovative analytical approaches to providing solutions for delivering sustainability in varied domestic and international contexts. 

This position will focus on greenhouse gas inventory and mitigation, low carbon development, climate adaptation, and resiliency planning projects primarily for local governments, development organizations, and other public agencies, although could also include work for the private sector. The majority of assignments are likely to include development of climate action planning, evaluation of emissions and financial benefits of low carbon infrastructure projects, development of decision support tools that support practice-related strategic- and project-level analyses. Other assignments could include long-term community resilience and pre-disaster mitigation planning.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Greenhouse gas emission inventories and forecasts (community-scale)
  • Climate Action Plans for cities of a range of sizes in U.S. and international
  • Strategic low-carbon infrastructure analyses
  • Cost-benefit analysis of greenhouse gas reduction actions
  • Community emission and sustainability key performance indicator monitoring
  • Energy efficiency / green building policy modeling
  • Climate vulnerability and risk assessments for municipalities, transportation agencies, utilities
  • Resiliency strategies and plans for cities and other organizations
  • Climate adaptation strategies for municipalities, transportation agencies, utilities

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., City and Regional Planning, Environmental Policy, Engineering, Environmental Sciences) from an accredited university
  • Demonstrated knowledge of local government climate change/sustainability policy and program development
  • 3+ years of experience 
  • Understanding of community-scale greenhouse gas inventory and forecast methodologies (especially GPC Protocol and IPPC Guidance)
  • Experience on climate action planning and greenhouse gas reduction planning essential, particularly policy and program design
  • Experience on climate change vulnerability and risk assessments that consider an array of climate impacts, and development of adaptation strategies to reduce impacts
  • Excellent quantitative skills
  • Excellent decision support tool development skills
  • Detail-oriented: Strong sense of commitment, a willingness to learn more and a desire to work in a dynamic, deadline driven team environment
  • Excellent communication and writing skills 
  • Demonstrated experience managing projects, conducting and/or overseeing analysis, and writing proposals and securing work; client management, experience managing a small team
  • Excellent analytical and writing skills with education and/or professional background in community-scale greenhouse gas quantification techniques, climate action planning, and low carbon development
  • Understand urban GHG emission context in developed and developing nations
  • Knowledge of project-level finance and policy modeling/design also strongly desired
  • Demonstrated expertise in sustainability, with a particular emphasis on urban systems and infrastructure
