Job Opening: The Department of Conservation and Recreation seeks applicants for the position of Environmental Analyst III. The position is located in Belchertown, MA, to perform the following duties: General Statement of Duties: Perform professional environmental analysis of the Quabbin Reservoir and Ware River watersheds to help locate and control sources of environmental pollutants in accordance with applicable laws, rules, regulations, standards, and sound environmental principles and practices. Perform various activities associated with environmental quality assessments including field inspections, water quality sampling, plan review, stormwater monitoring and mitigation of stormwater pollution, database development, data compilation and analysis, GIS mapping and data layer development, preparation of memos and reports, implementation of recommendations, workplan development and supervision of staff. DETAILED STATEMENT OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 1. Oversee two distinct watershed monitoring programs including tributary water quality monitoring, streamflow monitoring program, meteorological monitoring program, investigations into sources of waterway conductivity, DBP precursor investigations, bacterial sourcing investigations, land use monitoring, and other related areas of inquiry. 2. Summarize and interpret annual water quality data in the annual water quality report. 3. Supervise two Environmental Quality staff, develop workplans, document weekly activities, attend coordination meetings, and write any necessary summaries and reports. 4. Manage the EQ water quality monitoring database and associated workflows, work in R, Python, SQL, ArcGIS, and Access database tools to store environmental data and perform consistent periodic QA/QC assessments. Coordinate with other DWSP staff on data standardization efforts. 5. Assist with development of ArcGIS databases and coordinate the data entry of information related to field investigations both ongoing and historical. 6. Update water quality sampling plans annually in coordination with reservoir monitoring lead and MWRA colleagues. 7. Coordinate in, participate in, and/or lead meetings regarding EQ work with MWRA, UMass, or other sister agencies to inform management decisions. 8. Determine needs for future stormwater sampling based on analysis of historic data 9. Assist in the development of hydrologic and water quality study in the long-term forestry/timber harvesting project. 10. Participate in DWSP’s annual presentation and inspection to MA DEP. 11. Other duties as needed. |
