The Netherlands Institute of International Relations ‘Clingendael‘ is a leading think tank and academy on international affairs. Intern / EU and Global Affairs Research Unit

36 hours per week

Internship period: 01 September 2024 – 30 November 2024

The Clingendael Institute is currently looking for a motivated and enthusiastic intern to support its EU and global affairs research unit for a period of 3 months. The EU and Global Affairs research unit comprises five thematic programmes, focussing on a) European integration and politics, b) the European neighbourhood and Western Balkans c) Geopolitics, d) Sustainability, and e) China. Main clients include the Netherlands’ Ministry of Foreign Affairs, EU institutions, as well as the private sector.

This internship will be centered around programme B, focusing on a multi-annual EU Horizon project addressing autocratic tendencies in Turkey and its implications for EU policy instruments.

Job description:

Relevant tasks are:

  • Providing research assistance, particularly analyzing documents in Turkish (such as speeches, statements, and interviews);
  • Drafting texts based on research findings;
  • Offering organisational and project support to the research team.

Qualifications and experience:

We would be interested if the following requirements are met:

  • Enrolled in a relevant MA programme (political science, international relations, EU studies, migration studies, etc.);
  • Interest in the EU, the European Neighbourhood Policy (ENP) as well as EU-Turkey relations. Knowledge of agriculture and water management is considered a plus;
  • Good working knowledge of English and Turkish;
  • Working knowledge of Dutch is considered a plus;
  • Team player, but also capable of working independently on the basis of instructions;
  • Good communication skills, comfortable working and functioning in a diplomatic and professional environment;
  • Flexibility, capable of working under pressure and reaching deadlines.

Eligibility:

  • Candidates must be enrolled as a student at a university during their internship;
  • The internship period is three months with the possibility of extension. Interns should be able to commit to working 36 hours a week – working partly from Clingendael, partly from home.
