Position summary

The UNEP GEMS/Water Capacity Development Centre in UCC was established in 2015 to provide training and technical support in water quality monitoring and assessment globally on behalf of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), through the GEMS/Water global water quality monitoring programme. The Centre staff work closely with the UNEP office in Nairobi and the GEMS/Water Data Centre at the Federal Institute of Hydrology in Koblenz, Germany to investigate appropriate water quality monitoring strategies from sample collection through to data management, and to develop and deliver related training. The Centre now runs an on-line PG Dip/MSc programme and a selection of on-line Continuous Professional Development modules to professionals working in the water resources management sector globally. It is also continuing to develop field summer schools for global participants.

The Research Support Officer will provide expertise, technical and administrative support for these programmes and for the development of a product platform for the delivery of capacity development on behalf of the Centre in its role in the World Water Quality Alliance. Experience in developing training materials for delivery on-line and experience of field work, or demonstrating in the field, are essential.

Post Duration: 24 Months

Salary: €37,000 p.a. (Personal Rate)
