Our Surface Water Science team is currently seeking to appoint an Ecohydrologist to contribute to the development and delivery of high priority science research projects and ecological monitoring activities. This work includes data analysis, evaluation and reporting to improve the knowledge and communication of ecological and hydrological impacts for the effective management of water resources.

About You

Our Ecohydrologists are ecologists that specialise in the interactions between water and the environment. They plan and implement aquatic ecological monitoring and research activities on the impacts of water management in NSW. We provide data and information to inform water management decisions and outcomes, and critically analyse, interpret, and communicate results from ecological and hydrological studies to provide reliable and accurate information from which policy can be developed.

You will contribute to the development and implementation of ecological management strategies and the continual improvement of water resource management, participating in single and multidisciplinary project teams to deliver timely water resource management outcomes for NSW.

To be successful in this role, you will have demonstrated experience in:

  • Aquatic ecology, wetland vegetation or ecological monitoring projects
  • Working within a collaborative science team with competing and changing priorities
  • Managing complex ecological and river flow data and hydrological and ecological models
  • Documenting complex workflows and communicating project outcomes
  • Utilising analytical technology, such as: GIS, remote sensing imagery, Python, Source and IQQM
  • In addition, an understanding of water management in NSW is desirable

Essential Requirements:

  • Degree qualifications in aquatic ecology, environmental science, or natural resource management
  • Valid driver’s licence and the ability and willingness to travel.

The Surface Water Science unit is a team of aquatic ecologists, hydrologists, geomorphologists and water quality scientists. We conduct a diverse range of scientific studies to inform water management decisions and policy development. Examples of some of the studies conducted by the group are available from our Environmental Outcome Monitoring and Research Program reports.
