The Department of Civil Engineering in the College of Engineering and Physical Sciences at Aston University seeks applications for three (3) Lecturer/Senior Lecturer positions (appointment level to be made commensurate with successful candidate profile). The successful candidates will be expected to engage in teaching, research and enterprise, as well as administrative activities within the Department of Civil Engineering. We give strong emphasis on student engagement, project-oriented learning and employability. Excellent communication skills and a strong commitment to teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels are, therefore, vital.

A PhD in Civil Engineering or in-Built Environment or in a closely aligned discipline with teaching experience, excellent publication records and demonstrable potential to develop internationally recognised research profiles are required. The candidates applying for senior lecturer position will have a growing international research profile evidenced by high quality publications, external esteem, grant income and PhD supervision. It is also expected that candidates applying for senior lecturer position will have a recognised teaching qualification, have experience in leading modules and will be using his/her existing experience to develop new programmes and invigorate existing modules. 

Industrial experience and professional qualification or working towards professional qualification will be highly desirable. Strong organisational and planning skills are key to the success of this role.

We are looking especially for applicants with experience in the following areas, although all outstanding candidates will be considered:

(i) Structural Analysis and Design   

(ii) Construction Management and Quantity Surveying 

(iii) Geotechnical Engineering

(v) Transport Infrastructure Engineering 

(vii) Water Engineering
