The Bureau of Meteorology is an essential contributor to the Australian economy and community via its relationships with the nation’s agriculture and water sectors.
Under the Meteorology Act 1955, the Bureau is required to provide observations, forecasts, warnings and advice to assist primary production. Our services are relied on by the agriculture sector to inform decisions that manage 25% of national water extractions and 55% of Australia’s land mass, for a sector that directly employs 2.5% of the national workforce, and accounts for more than 10% of Australia’s exports.
Under the Water Act 2007, the Bureau is responsible for: gathering and disseminating Australia’s water information; giving regular assessments and forecasts of Australia’s water resources; producing the National Water Account; issuing standards and; giving advice on water matters. The Bureau supports government and the public by providing comprehensive data and information on Australia’s water and climate conditions. This informs decisions critical to water trade of around $6 billion annually and management of urban water infrastructure that is worth approximately $170 billion.
The Bureau seeks a high-performing General Manager to steward the 50-strong agriculture and water team, which operates from range of locations across Australia. Contributing to the Business Solutions Group Leadership Team and Bureau Senior Leadership Team, you will influence the culture and direction of the Bureau nationally and internationally.
