Project Engineering Specialist
(2 Year contract)
This is a two-year position in the Hamilton Conservation Authority’s (HCA) Watershed Planning and Engineering Department. The Project Engineering Specialist will assist with the implementation and successful completion of the Hamilton Conservation Authority’s (HCA) watershed engineering and restoration projects. The Project Engineering Specialist will also assist as required with the HCA’s overall watershed engineering program.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provide day to day oversight and project management for identified HCA water resources engineering and restoration projects (i.e. wetland restoration projects, floodplain mapping and water and erosion infrastructure projects).
As part of the Watershed Planning and Engineering Team, complete review, assessment and provide comment on technical reports and plans related to identified water resources engineering and restoration projects.
Undertake field assessments and inspections as part of the development and implementation of assigned projects
As required on a project basis, complete project descriptions, tender and quotation documents to engage consultants
Work with project consulting team, as required by the specific project, to ensure project timing, deadlines and cost requirements and reporting are met.
Work with the Watershed Planning & Engineering Team and consulting staff as required to ensure projects approvals from Federal, Provincial and Municipal agencies are obtained as required.
Ensure compliance for projects with all obtained approvals and regulatory statute requirements.
As part of the Watershed Planning and Engineering Team, undertake and engage with stakeholders and the public to ensure awareness and understanding of project goals and benefits.
Undertake and assist in drafting reports relating to projects undertaken and also reports to HCA Board of Directors and the advisory board regarding consultant selection, project implementation and status.
As required and directed, assist water resources engineering staff with project and daily tasks relating to Flood Forecasting and Warning, Low Water Response, Hamilton Harbour Remedial Action Plan Surface Water Quality Monitoring, groundwater monitoring and data management
Other duties as required.
A graduate of a university or college program specializing in water resources engineering, resources management or related environmental sciences
Professional Engineer (P. Eng) designation or ability to obtain designation in the near term is preferred
Experience related to project management specifically for water resources engineering and restoration projects
Understanding of principles and approaches related to hydrology, fluvial geomorphology, ecology, natural resources management, environmental impact assessment, and knowledge of watershed management and land use planning processes
Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
Positive team player capable of self-directed, independent work
Ability to work outdoors to conduct field investigations in variable terrain and weather conditions
Possess a valid Ontario driver’s license
Proficient with the use of Microsoft Office software suite including database management (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access), and experience working with Geographic Information Systems (GIS)
The Project Engineering Specialist will be based at Woodend, the HCA’s main office location, 838 Mineral Springs Rd., Ancaster ON. However, time will also be required to be spent in the field on HCA-owned lands and other properties. Working hours will total 37.5 per week, Monday through Friday inclusive with the additional requirement of evening meetings and occasional work on weekends.
WORK TERM AND RATE OF PAY:
This is a two-year contract position with an anticipated starting date of February 1, 2021. The rate of pay is $30.77 per hour
