Description of the post/job

We are looking for a senior scientist in a permanent position on groundwater research.

As a senior scientist you will lead and carry out research and development projects related to groundwater hydrology, quantity and quality as well as processes related to groundwater – surface water and soil interactions. Your research aims to develop new knowledge, methods and tools for planning and management of groundwater resources. You will lead groundwater research at SYKE and develop grant proposals for large research and development projects together with the collaboration partners. Your task will be also to be active in national and international research networks and promote cooperation with stakeholders.

The senior scientist position is located at SYKE’s Freshwater center either in Helsinki, Oulu, Jyväskylä, or Joensuu premises, where we work in a modern activity-base environment. SYKE has remote working possibility.

Our expectations of the applicant

To be successful in this position, you need to have a Doctoral degree in hydrogeology, hydrology, water resources management, or a similar field. You need to have proven ability to apply research funding and to carry out and lead research projects. You should have minimum of 5 years experience in groundwater research and a high-quality scientific publication record.

Working at SYKE and SYKE’s networks is strongly multidisciplinary and multilingual teamwork, so as a senior scientist you need excellent collaboration, interaction and communication skills. You are ready to learn something new and, if necessary, challenge yourself in terms of interdisciplinarity, methods and interaction. We expect you to describe in the application how you would develop research related to sustainable management and use of groundwaters.

Language skills needed in the job

Excellent oral and written skills in English are required in the position. Basic skills in Finnish are an advantage.

Information about pay

The salary is determined based on task difficulty, personal performance and experience in accordance with SYKE’s salary system (EUR 4370-5349 euros/month).
