The Country Programme of Cooperation between the Government of Mozambique and UNICEF (CPD) for 2022-2026 aims to support Mozambique to accelerate efforts towards achieving the targets of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and meeting its commitment to respect, protect and fulfil the rights of children, in line with the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) and the Core Commitments for Children in Humanitarian Action. It derives from the United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (UNSDCF), 2022–2026 and aligns with the Government Five-Year Plan 2020–2024, the National Development Strategy 2015–2035 and relevant sector policies and programmes.

How can you make a difference? 

This position of WASH W&E officer is to be based in Maputo Office however with strong liaison of WASH teams at Field Offices and close coordination with WASH Output Leads.  (S)he will be provided supervision and guidance by WASH Section Chief (P5) and (s)he will be assisted by the Section M&E Focal Point (WASH Specialist, NOC). 

Your expected deliverables will mainly include:

  1. Development, implementation, and management of a comprehensive internal WASH monitoring tool
  2. Programme Reporting and development. 
  3. Advocacy, networking, and partnership building
  4. Innovation, knowledge management and capacity building

The expected Impact of Results for this position will enable the country office to achieve the WASH-related output results of the country programme.  This, in turn, will contribute to the achievement of the outcome results of the country programme document.  When done effectively, the achievement of the outcome results will improve child survival, growth and development and reduce inequalities in the country.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

The following minimum requirements:

Education: Advanced university degree(Masters) in one or more of the disciplines relevant to the following areas: development studies, WASH or sanitation and hygiene, public health, economics and social sciences, monitoring and evaluation and planning.

Additional relevant post-graduate courses that complement/supplement the main degree is an asset: monitoring and evaluation, information technologies and geographical information systems.

Work Experience: A minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience in the WASH Sector and in developing M&E tools and systems.

Considered and Asset:

  1. Experience working with the JMP;
  2. Experience working with/in UNICEF, the UN or other international development organizations;
  3. HUMANITARIAN: At least one deployment mission in a humanitarian situation (with UN-Govt-INGO).

Language Requirements: Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of Portuguese or a Latin Language is a strong asset.
