The Working Wetlands project is one of the largest natural catchment management schemes in the South West to improve water quality and build the resilience and sustainability of 8 major catchments across Devon as part of South West Water’s Upstream Thinking programme. The programme has wide-reaching, positive impacts on the environment – increasing biodiversity, reducing energy use, contributing to Water Framework Directive compliance, improving carbon sequestration and reducing the risk of flooding.

You will need a good knowledge of farming and forestry practices and related water quality issues, as well as previous experience in delivering advice to farmers and landowning organisations across a range of environmental topics. The project focuses on achieving land management, forestry and farming changes in targeted locations, working with private farm businesses, public sector organizations and others. You will provide advice across the Barnstaple Yeo Catchment, working closely with the other Working Wetland project’s Tamar Advisor, West Country Rivers Trust, and the Working Wetland project’s Water Quality Advisor.

The project is funded by South West Water. This post is being offered as a part-time (18.75 hours a week), permanent role with DWT, with secured funding for the project until March 2025.  The working pattern must include Tuesdays to facilitate effective team working – standard days of the week for the remaining time can be agreed with the successful candidate.  The post is based at Cookworthy, Beaworthy.

DWT’s offices are currently operating special arrangements as part of the current public health guidance on social distancing, therefore it is likely that you will be required to work from home initially.

We can offer you good terms and conditions, flexible working arrangements and a great office environment.  The successful candidate will be joining a team of committed, hardworking and friendly colleagues. This is a great opportunity to take the next step in your career within a leading Devon charity.
