Job Description

Cova is a social enterprise building a healthier Central America through community-centered safe water solutions. Through Cova’s proven Circuit Rider model, our team provides post-construction support to rural communities to deliver long-term sustainable improvement to water systems across El Salvador, Honduras, and Nicaragua. Cova’s model currently provides safe drinking water to 1.3 million people across 2,000 rural communities.

As we enter an exciting phase of growth, we are expanding the Circuit Rider Model into El Salvador, and further within Nicaragua and Honduras. Cova is also strengthening collaborations with rural community water boards, local ministries of health, and various public, private, and civil sector partners to further our mission and implement innovative and sustainable funding opportunities.

We are seeking an eager, motivated, and passionate individual who thrives in both strategic and tactical roles, particularly in program design and data analysis. The ideal candidate will be a dedicated problem solver, committed to improving access to safe drinking water across Central America.

Responsibilities

Program Management & Implementation

  • Provide technical leadership in the development and implementation of programs and operations in Central America in line with Cova’s strategic plan in close collaboration with the Technical Program Director and CEO (position will report to Technical Program Director)
  • Ensure programmatic excellence, establish short- and long-term range objectives in close collaboration with Technical Program Director
  • Promote collaboration and problem solving, organization wide, to overcome immediate challenges in program implementation
  • Guide in-country and regional expansion, working closely with leadership to develop operational strategies related to the initiatives supported by this role
Monitoring and Evaluation, Data Analysis
  • Optimize mWater water quality database
  • Design and implement new surveys on an as needed basis, designing and iterating through close work with in-country staff
  • Manage quarterly data reporting requirements for funders and partners
  • Design and build dashboards and other visual tools for use by country directors, key field staff, partners, and leadership
  • Provide technical support to ongoing sensor-based monitoring initiatives
Carbon Credit Initiative
  • Lead the development of Cova’s latest strategic initiative: carbon credits for safe drinking water
  • Research and immerse oneself in the voluntary carbon market
  • Analyze existing opportunities to develop a carbon credit roadmap for Cova
  • Develop monitoring, evaluation and implementation plans for carbon crediting process
  • Liaise with in-country team(s) to develop strategies and efficiencies around data collection necessary for carbon credit program
Chlorine Supply Chain Management
  • Investigate new local and global sources for high quality chlorine
  • Manage ongoing contracts for chlorine purchase
  • Assist local in-country staff with navigating import/export of chlorine
  • Provide strategic oversight to country directors for local chlorine sale planning
Representation and Collaboration
  • Contribute to Cova’s thought leadership by building bridges to likeminded organizations
  • Actively share program updates and news with personal and professional networks
  • Effectively communicate programmatic and analysis findings internally and externally in the form of written reports, conference presentations, and meetings

Qualifications

Education and Experience:
  • Bachelors or graduate degree in engineering, data science, public health, international studies or related field
  • 2-5 years experience in the WASH sector, implementing programs and/or managing monitoring and evaluation for programs
  • International experience implementing programs while living and working in implementation region, preference will be given to candidates with specific experience in Latin America
Languages:
  • Fluent written and spoken English, required
  • Excellent written and spoken Spanish
Desired Skill and Abilities:
  • Technical skills in implementing WASH interventions and programs
  • Entrepreneurial spirit, strong independent desire to take on projects and lead efforts
  • Strong written and verbal communications
  • Collaborative mindset, interest in partnering both within and beyond Cova to advance our mission
  • Proficiency in MS office, data analysis programs also highly preferred
  • Experience with mWater highly preferred

Location

The position is based remotely in the US or Central America, with the specific work location to be agreed upon during the hiring process. We are seeking candidates who are open to residing in Honduras, Nicaragua, or El Salvador for an initial start-up period of 3-6 months, or potentially on a full-time basis, to gain a deeper understanding of our programs.
