About the role
We are seeking a Research Assistant to join an exciting, rapidly expanding international research project which seeks to reduce the environmental impacts of thousands of farms worldwide using digital tools. You would work on consolidating agri-environmental data on the most widely produced crops, focusing on the top producing countries, and uploading it to the HESTIA data platform, as well as contributing to the HESTIA glossary and to the development of new environmental models. Your work will help generate data on multiple environmental impacts (e.g., global warming potential, ecosystem toxicity, eutrophication, land use, water use) of different food products, such as sugarcane, wheat, rice, maize, soya beans, sugar beet, other vegetables, and cassava.
HESTIA is a large, motivated team of environmental scientists and software developers. The team is based within the Interdisciplinary Centre for Conservation Science in the Department of Biology and the Oxford Martin School.
About you
You will hold or be close to completion of a relevant postgraduate degree or hold an undergraduate degree in a relevant subject with equivalent experience. You will possess sufficient specialist knowledge in the discipline to work within established research programmes. You will be highly numerate and have strong organizational and communication skills. You will also be able to interact effectively within the team with both senior and junior researchers, whilst also being able to work independently while using personal initiative and judgement.
