Job status: One year contract position with renewal potential

Salary: Negotiable ~ $50,000/yr
Hours: 35 hours/week

Position Description

As GIS Manager you will lead the development of TBuck’s spatial systems and data collection. You will provide analytical support for data rich projects including: marine habitat mapping, local fishing knowledge, lost gear, lost vessels, and other coastal values to support the Foundation’s goals. You will work with our team to manage the data needs of the organization.

You will have proven track record of successful project management, the ability to represent TBuck positively both internally and externally, a vision for how to continually set a higher standard for GIS work and the drive and organization to realize it.

This position could be based in our office in Vancouver or Victoria or be remote.


  • Develop a standardized approach to handling, updating and analyzing data.
  • Coordinate with staff and external partners to develop solutions to data issues.
  • Manage projects involving multiple stakeholders, and ensure that work is completed to a high standard, on time and on budget.
  • Support staff to ensure that they have the data resources necessary to be successful.
  • Develop, design and maintain all GIS related systems and databases.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with partner organizations and stakeholders.
  • Participate in organizational activities including developing individual work plans and Objectives and Key Results, staff reporting, and other processes.

Education & Experience

  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in GIS from a recognized and accredited institution is preferred.
  • 5+ years of progressive GIS experience.
  • Documented training with current GIS software and programming languages.

Knowledge, Skills, & Experience

  • Advanced skills in geomatics including editing, mapping, geo-processing, querying and reporting.
  • Proven ability to lead, mentor and motivate.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Demonstrated skills in project management, problem solving and organization.
  • Expertise using the ESRI software suite of tools.
  • Solid understanding of fisheries management and marine planning.
  • Self-starter with the ability to manage and prioritize competing assignments.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience with code such as HTML and CSS an asset.
  • Experience with Seasketch an asset.
  • Preference to those with experience working with fisheries, marine, and coastal communities.
