The purpose of the present research project is to improve and apply numerical models to study the morphodynamic evolution and the water temperature dynamics of the Venice lagoon. More precisely the research activities will involve: 1) the development of a code for describing the dynamics of temperature in the water column to be coupled with the hydro-morphodynamic model. Water and sediment temperature indeed represents one of the major factors driving many ecological and biological processes affecting the water quality, the state of the ecosystem and the morphological evolution of tidal environments; 2) the development and application of numerical tools describing the coupled hydro-geomorphic dynamics of the Venice lagoon suitable for evaluating long-term scenarios in support of ecosystem management, also with reference to the operation of the Mo.S.E. system.
