The Idaho Department of Water Resources (IDWR) has a department promotional opening for the Hydrology Section Manager at the State Office in Boise. This position offers an exciting opportunity to impact Idaho water resource management.

This position will manage the preparation of hydrologic and hydrogeologic analyses for planning, design, regulation, and management of Idaho’s water resources. It also performs related work.

Example of Duties

Section management:

· Hires and evaluates staff performing hydrologic analyses

· Prepares, reviews, and implements section work plans, priorities, and programs

· Evaluates program effectiveness and compliance with state laws and regulations

· Confers with leadership on water administration, policy development, and program problems

· Monitors section expenditures

· Conducts training sessions and staff meetings

Hydrology Studies:

· Determines analysis needs and coordinates activities between staff and other sections to perform hydrologic, hydrogeologic, groundwater quality, and geothermal resource analyses

· Oversees development, improvement, and implementation of water accounting programs used by the Department

· Assists staff in complex evaluations

· Develops and uses simulation models of river and groundwater systems

· Predicts potential impacts of new reservoirs, diversions, and minimum flow levels

· Writes reports

· Directs hydrogeologic studies of aquifers and recommends changes in federal or contractor hydrologic studies

· Reviews hydrologic aspects of plans and proposals of other agencies dealing with Idaho water and recommends appropriate action

Minimum Qualifications

· Experience demonstrating considerable knowledge of surface water hydrology and groundwater hydrogeology principles and evaluation techniques

· Experience managing technical staff and programs

· Experience constructing or using surface or groundwater models for analyzing hydrologic responses, for the purposes of providing recommendations for conflict resolution or to plan for future water management
