Conditions of Employment:
- Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
- Must be registered (or eligible for registration) as a Professional Engineer with Engineers Geoscientists Manitoba
- Must have a valid Class 5 driver’s licence
- Must be willing and able to travel within Manitoba
- Must be able to occasionally work outdoors in rough terrain, around water, ice, and traffic in all weather and climatic conditions
- Must be able to work for extended hours and shift work as required
Qualifications:
Essential:
- Undergraduate degree in Civil Engineering.
- Experience in conducting hydrologic analyses including flood frequency analysis and hydrologic modelling for infrastructure planning, design, and climate change impact assessments.
- Experience working with prairie hydrology.
- Experience in the use of ESRI GIS tools in data processing and interpretation, analysis and processing of complex hydro-meteorological data to support hydrologic studies and river and lake ice monitoring and modeling works.
- Thorough knowledge of hydraulic principles, hydraulic theories and modeling, including flood routing, and river ice processes.
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
- Strong verbal communication and interpersonal skills with an ability to communicate effectively with internal and external contacts.
- Effective written communication skills including ability to prepare technical and non-technical correspondence and reports.
- Strong analytical, problem solving and decision making skills.
- Ability to learn and work with appropriate industry software tools and technology to successfully complete assignments/projects.
Duties:
The incumbent is required to:
- conduct hydrologic investigations for flood mapping and flood mitigation studies, and for determining flood protection levels
- provide design discharges, flood levels and fish passage flows for infrastructure planning, design and approvals
- assess the hydrologic impact of water development proposals.
The incumbent is also required to provide technical support during flood season by developing GIS data products, processing RADARSAT imagery for river and lake ice monitoring, and conducting hydrologic analyses.
