Job Description
Climate Focus is seeking a land use consultant to join our office in Washington, D.C. This is an excellent opportunity to work with a pioneering, versatile and dynamic organization, committed to advancing new research, analysis and implementation of land use finance and policy. The successful candidate will be a strong team player, and be familiar and comfortable working in a range of environments and geographies with a diverse group of clients. In this position you will work in close collaboration with other Climate Focus staff to:

  • Support advisory projects for government, multilateral, and private sector clients in the area of agriculture, forestry and other land use (AFOLU)
  • Conduct financial and technical analysis of land use business models and their enabling environment including public and private incentive mechanisms for sustainable development
  • Assess, develop and coordinate public and private investment projects in Latin America that support sustainable land use and REDD+
  • Build client relationships including travel and participation to international meetings
  • Support the expansion of Climate Focus’s sustainable land use project pipeline
  • Coordinate and contribute to studies and reports, including feasibility studies, business plans, policy reports

Work Experience and Skills Required

  • At least 5 years experience in climate change and land use with a minimum of 2 years experience project development and management experience
  • BSc, BA in economics, finance, forestry, agriculture or similar, MBA, MSc or J.D. or equivalent foreign degree preferred
  • Experience in working in developing countries, preferably Latin America
  • Strong analytical capacities and interest in quantitative analysis
  • Existing networks within private sector and international organizations
  • Prior experience working in or with the private sector
  • Excellent writing and communication skills
  • Fluency in English (spoken and written), Spanish fluency, other languages an asset
  • Permission to work in the U.S.
  • Willingness to travel internationally
  • Excellent organizational skills, with experience of managing complex projects and workload as well as managing work with project partners
  • Ability to work well within teams across disciplines and cultures
  • The candidate should be a team player that enjoys working in an international field of business
