Summary of Role & Key Responsibilities
Summary of Role
We are looking for a highly motivated Consultant to support our Nature business line to support projects within our service offerings. The role will involve collaborating with global Anthesis team and technical experts in both nature projects and other relevant areas.
The projects are focussed on the relationship of business with nature and guiding our clients to develop a greater understanding of that relationship and contribute to a nature positive world. We work with our clients by raising awareness of their dependencies and impacts on nature, develop insights through materiality assessments, set baseline measurements of environmental impacts, develop targets, and eventually (re)write strategies and policies for them. Frameworks and legislation such as TNFD, SBTn, CSRD and the EU Nature restoration law as are tools like ENCORE, Biodiversity Risk Filter and Aqueduct are a big part of our work.
Your role within project work includes company benchmarking, dependency and impact analysis, ecological fieldwork, , performing interviews, workshops and writing reports. You will become part of a growing team, where you can develop to become a core group member helping to develop the Anthesis nature team and its strategy.
Key Responsibilities
- Support project and client managers in conducting primary and secondary research and analysis on nature and biodiversity leadership practices, and emerging issues and trends in a variety of industry sectors utilizing a wide range of sources, including desktop research, stakeholder interviews, literature reviews, and other methodologies
- Conduct benchmarking and technical research to support companies in developing goals, targets and strategies to halt and reverse biodiversity loss and regenerate and restore nature
- Work with clients to locate, evaluate, assess and prioritize their dependencies and impacts on nature, and address nature-related risk through strategic, programmatic and disclosure recommendations
- Deliver tasks on time and within budget and assist project managers to ensure that projects perform against targets and deadlines
- Support the development of proposals that demonstrate an understanding of the client’s business and offer tailored scopes of work to achieve their nature goals and priorities, and actively contribute to Anthesis’ business development activities.
- Draft reports and presentations that convey key messages to a variety of stakeholders and inform strategic decision-making
- Actively contribute to the evolution of Anthesis Group’s nature offerings by:
- Honing your technical expertise, supported by service line leaders across our Nature offerings
- Supporting development or improvement of tools and systems to provide increased value to clients, improve quality of deliverables, create greater efficiencies and scaling of Nature offerings to contribute towards Anthesis group’s commercial and corporate nature goals
- Contributing to delivery of nature assessments, including but not limited to biodiversity, soil, forests, and water
Key Requirements, Skills Knowledge & Expertise
Key Requirements
- BA/BSc & MSc. degree in environmental science, biology, ecology, sustainable development, forestry or related field
- Experience working with large and/or complex data sets and demonstrated ability to analyze, interpret, synthesize, and communicate key findings. (Experiece with GIS is an asset)
- Experience with ecological fieldwork
- Demonstrable passion for, and commitment to, improving sustainability performance
- Proven research and analytical skills (from academia or work experience), with proficiency in Excel, PowerPoint and Word
- Ability to think and work independently, while also being an enthusiastic and proactive team player
- Rigorous thinking with deep analytical skills and ability to creatively problem-solve
Personal Attributes and Qualities:
- Good problem solving/contingency planning skills with ability to find quick, innovative and practical solutions.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to speak fluently and communicate effectively in written reports and oral presentations
- Ability to speak more than one language apart from English is a plus (e.g. French, German, Spanish, Dutch)
- Curious, globally minded, and enthusiastic
- Organized self-starter with attention to detail
- Willingness to learn new skills and work collaboratively with others in a dynamic work environment
- Ability to navigate multiple priorities and take a flexible approach to a dynamic, fast moving and changing work environment
