Our Water Strategies & Policy division is currently seeking to appoint a Principal Policy Officer (Murray Darling Basin) on a fixed term basis to October 2026.

Lead a team in the formulation of NSW water management policy and associated implementation strategy to support Commonwealth led water reforms in the Murray-Darling Basin, and position NSW as lead in negotiations with other state and federal government agencies.

About You

In this role you will lead problem identification, evidence collation, policy development and options analysis, identification of success measures and evaluation strategies, and strategic planning to support the implementation of effective water reforms for the Murray-Darling Basin.

You will thrive in a busy environment, with often short timeframes on deliverables. Your style will be flexible, agile, with the ability to manage competing demands.

You will also provide expert policy advice and insight to support the Minister and senior executive in negotiations across inter-jurisdictional committees and assist the passage of policy and related documents through cabinet and parliamentary processes; as well as promote key principles and direction across the broader Water group and NSW government.
