U.K. nationals: Hydrometry and Telemetry Officer
Hydrometry and Telemetry officers provide accurate and timely hydrometric data to the Environment agency and the wider public to support operational decisions, flood risk, water resources and environment management. Core fieldwork includes the collection of high quality data from sites across the hydrometric network and is principally, but not exclusively, the following; rainfall, river flow, river level and groundwater level data. The collection and delivery of high quality hydrometric data is essential for the effective management of water resources and flood risk both locally and nationally.
A key part of the role will involve developing effective relationships with partners and team members. In particular training, mentoring and coaching colleagues. You will monitor the progress of H&T projects and provide solutions to hydrometric and telemetry problems and identify gaps in our service which could be improved.

The Hydrometry and Telemetry team provide core telemetry, hydrometric and hydrological data to the Environment Agency in particular river level and flow, rainfall and groundwater levels. The team collects data across East Midlands Area and delivers a business critical service that underpins the Environment Agency’s responsibilities relating to flood and coastal risk management and water resource management.
You will have relevant or directly transferable experience and ideally have a scientific or engineering background and be experienced in installing, maintaining and analysing hydrometric instrumentation, systems and databases, including operation of telemetry systems.
You will also be either an experienced project manager or experienced in managing large quantities of data. You will display excellent communication and IT skills and possess an innovative outlook with strong practical problem solving skills. You will be happy to work in the field often in demanding poor weather conditions all year round.
The nature of the role dictates that you will have a full UK driving Licence and a request that you hold an out of hours incident role.
