Purpose of consultancy
To draft new WHO and UNICEF global Guidelines on Hand Hygiene in Community Settings and an implementation framework and lay the groundwork for piloting of the Guidelines in a sub-set of countries.
Background
While one of the most cost-effective measures for prevention of disease, hand hygiene is often under-prioritised and underfunded, and COVID-19 has shone a spotlight on deficits in this field. In response to Member States demand for clearer evidence-based guidance on this, WHO is co-producing with UNICEF a set of new global Guidelines on Hand Hygiene in the Community Setting. These guidelines will support governments to accelerate progress towards Sustainable Development Goal 6 on water, sanitation and hygiene, which is currently perilously off-track. These global Guidelines are a key deliverable for WHO during the present biennium.
The Guidelines have been under development for the last two years. During this final 9-month period, the consultant will aid in the drafting and publication of the guidelines, including a robust implementation framework, managing inputs from a range of stakeholders, and laying the groundwork for piloting in a sub-set of countries.
