Four Partial MSc scholarships for Latin Americans on Sanitation and Sanitary Engineering (Engineering Sciences and Sanitation profiles) on the Water and Health Track of the MSc programme on Water and Sustainable Development.

IHE Delft offers 4 scholarships which cover the full tuition fee (approximately 50% of the total cost) of the 68 ECTS MSc programme on Water and Sustainable Development (with a duration of 12 months) to citizens from Latin America or the Caribbean. Cost of living, visa, insurance, travel and thesis-related fieldwork costs need to be covered by the candidate or through other sources. Candidates from any Latin American country are eligible if they follow the track Water and Health in the profiles of Engineering Sciences or Sanitation.

Requirements

Besides the standard admission requirements, please review the additional requirements outlined below.

  • Academic admission to the Water and Health Track of the regular MSc Programme on Water and Sustainable Development.
  • University degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering, Chemistry, Biology, Sanitary or Sanitation Engineering or any other comparable degree.
  • Affinity for mathematical modelling and programming is a plus.
  • To be a citizen of or originally from a country in Latin America or the Caribbean.
  • Current residency and employment in Latin America or the Caribbean.
  • Ability to cover the remaining cost through other means (approximately €16,000+ travel + thesis related fieldwork costs), which should be proved by a bank statement or second sponsor letter.
  • Should not have already received full funding to attend the programme through other means.

Application procedure for admission and scholarship

First, apply for academic admission for the MSc Programme here indicating your preference for the track Water and Health in the profiles of Engineering Sciences or Sanitation.

If you meet the admission requirements you will receive an academic admission letter. After you have received your academic admission letter and meet the requirements as stated above, please send an e-mail to Marlies Baburek, Fellowship and Admission Officer (m.baburek@un-ihe.org) that you wish to be considered for this scholarship. Proof of availability through bank statements or second sponsor letter should be attached. If you meet the requirements, you will be placed on the list of applicants who will be considered for the scholarship.

Selection procedure

  • Depending upon the number of applicants and their level of experience and expertise, short-listed applicants will be invited for an online interview.
  • Selected applicants will receive a partial scholarship (approximately 50% of the costs of the MSc Programme).
  • To be fully admitted to the regular MSc programme, selected applicants will need to secure the remaining costs from their own sources or third parties.
  • Fully accepted applicants will be assigned a coach within the framework of the MSc on Water and Sustainable Development.
  • Also, selected applicants will be assigned a MSc research supervision committee (composed of a supervisor and a mentor) on the track of Water and Health to carry out their MSc research on a topic of the Engineering or Sanitation profiles of the track Water and Health.
  • The MSc supervision team will define and assign the topic of the MSc research project that the selected applicants will carry out in the final part of the MSc studies.
  • Depending on their performance during the MSc programme and available resources, the selected candidates may be able to receive an additional scholarship to extend their studies and get enrolled in the 24-month Masters on Research programme.
